Killed By My Debt wins two Broadcast Awards

BBC Three’s hard-hitting factual drama Killed By My Debt written by DHA client Tahsin Guner is awarded both the Best Multichannel Programme and Best Single Drama at the 2019 Broadcast Awards.

The hour-long film traces the tragic story of Jerome Rogers, a 19-year-old motorbike courier who took his own life in 2015 after unwittingly racking up a sizeable debt having incurred two minor traffic fines.

Produced by BBC Studios Documentary Unit for BBC Three, the judges praised everything from the handling of the sensitive subject matter to the innovative filming techniques – such as bodycams on the bailiffs – and the incorporation of documentary material.

As one judge put it: “This drama needed to be made and should be watched by teenagers and those politicians who sanction zero-hours contracts.”
