Killed By My Debt wins Best Single Drama at 2019 BAFTA Awards

BBC Three’s hard-hitting factual drama Killed By My Debt written by DHA client Tahsin Guner, wins the Best Single Drama Award at the 2019 BAFTA TV Craft Awards.

So far this year, Killed By My Debt has also won the Best Multichannel Programme and Best Single Drama Broadcast awards and also scooped the prize for Best Single Drama at the RTS Awards.

Produced by BBC Studios Documentary Unit for BBC Three, the hour-long film traces the tragic story of Jerome Rogers, a 19-year-old motorbike courier who took his own life in 2015 after unwittingly racking up a sizeable debt after incurring two minor traffic fines.

Roger’s family joined the producers on stage to accept the award and delivered an emotional speech thanking the production for bringing Jerome’s story to a wider audience and highlighting the dangers of the gig-economy and unregulated bailiffs. They hope more awareness of Jerome’s tragic story will serve as a cautionary tale to other young and vulnerable people and to help to force a change in the debt-collection system.
