Emilia by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm heads to the West End
After a sell-out run at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre over the summer, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s critically acclaimed Emilia is set to transfer to the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre for a limited season, opening on the 8th March 2019 and finishing 15th June 2019.
Emilia dramatises the life of Emilia Bassano, a sixteenth-century writer, teacher, poet and mother, rumoured to be the ‘The Dark Lady’ of Shakespeare’s Sonnets. This legacy has erased her own achievements in favour of those of a man she may or may not have known. For the first time, this play gives a voice to this brilliant woman and radical feminist shackled by the history books. Come experience this rousing new play. Stand up alongside her and be counted.
Emilia is presented in the West End by an all-female producing team including Eleanor Lloyd, Kate Pakenham, Nica Burns and Eilene Davidson. The cast for the production is made up of an all-female company, who play both male and female roles.
