The Sculptress (TV)

Originally transmitted on BBC1, 10th and 17th August 1997.  A Red Rooster Television & All3Media production for the BBC.

Based on the award-winning novel by Minette Walter, The Sculptress was adapted for the BBC in 1996 and starred Pauline Quirke (Being April, Maisie Raine) as Olive Martin and Caroline Goodall (Me & Mrs. Jones, Schindler’s List) as Rosalind ‘Roz’ Leigh.

Five Years ago, Olive Martin pleaded guilty to killing and dismembering her sister and her mother, earning herself the chilling nickname ‘The Sculptress’.

Journalist Rosalind Lee needs to write a best-selling book and Olive is the perfect subject.

Nothing has prepared her for her meeting with the obese killer and Rosalind is drawn into a strange relationship of manipulation and mutual trust. Despite Olive’s protestations of her guilt, Rosalind is convinced that she is hiding something – perhaps even her innocence. But if Olive didn’t commit the murder, who is she protecting and why?
