This book was based on a true story.  It was illustrated in black & white and suitable for older children and adults. 

John Ryan, the creator of Captain Pugwash books and films, has for once written a story without children in mind. He lives in Rye, walks his dog every night around the scene of the famous murder, and here records his impressions of how it might have been.

This is by no means the first account of rye’s famous murder. The story is told in different forms in every local history and in various specially written booklets. Much scholarly work has been done to modify some of the more spectacular elaborations. This version seeks to entertain rather then inform.
