Bridget and Diane are flatmates. Considering the ten year age difference they get on well – apart from the constant appearance of Alistair, Diane’s boyfriend – in the flat. They decide to look for another tenant and that’s when the trouble starts… Norah applies for the room. She says she is a battered wife and has run away from home. Against Bridget’s wishes, Alistair’s interference results in Norah staying, at least for a while, and gradually the lies she has told are revealed. She is not a battered wife but the mother of a mentally ill son and wife of a psychiatrist.
