Suzanne Barton

Suzanne studied Psychology and taught English in Italy for a while. She tried her hand at antique dealing but spent too much time finding nice places to have tea and cake. Having always loved to draw and paint and make things she decided to return to studying and producing art, once her children had grown up a little.

After many years of doing part time art foundation and illustration degree courses, she finally arrived at the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. On this wonderful course she realized a long-held ambition and worked on her first picture book, The Dawn Chorus, published by Bloomsbury. The book was subsequently shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.  Her second title is Robin’s Winter Song.

Suzanne lives in Oxford with her husband, and two children. She loves sketching at the local nursery and primary schools and being told by the four year olds that she is not very good at drawing.

She is happiest drawing, painting, cutting and sticking and watching images and stories take shape.
