John Bercow was first elected to Parliament as the MP for Buckingham in 1997. He sought and won election as Speaker of the House of Commons in June 2009, going on to serve in that role for over ten years, making him the longest-serving post-war Speaker.

John stepped down as both Speaker and as an MP on 31 October 2019. His memoirs, Unspeakable, are published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson and became an immediate Sunday Times Top 10 bestseller.
