Irene Carr
Irene Carr was born and brought up on the river in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, in the 1930s. Her father and brother worked in shipyards in County Durham and her mother was a Sunderland barmaid. She is the author of a number of novels in the tradition of Catherine Cookson.
