David Nott is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of combat and trauma surgery. A consultant general and vascular surgeon affiliated with several London hospitals, David has spent several weeks or months of almost every year since the mid-1990s volunteering for aid agencies in war zones around the world. From his first experience in Sarajevo under siege in 1993, he has travelled to places like Sierra Leone, Liberia, Darfur, Iraq, Afghanistan and most recently has made several trips to Syria. He has also volunteered to assist after major natural disasters like the earthquakes in Haiti in 2010 and Nepal in 2015.
In 2016 David was given a Special Recognition award for his volunteer work at the Pride of Britain Awards.
David and his wife Elly have also established a charity, the David Nott Foundation, to help disseminate the knowledge and skills he has acquired to other doctors. His astonishing and bestselling memoir, War Doctor, is published by Picador, and has been optioned for film.
