Caroline Walsh

I began my career in children’s publishing and worked in editorial roles for twelve years before joining David Higham in 1996 as an agent specialising in children’s authors and illustrators.

Many of my clients have gone on to write award-wining and bestselling books and their output covers the whole range of children’s books, from pre-school board books, through picture books, poetry, middle-grade fiction, non-fiction and Teen/YA novels.  I also represent a handful of adult fiction writers where my tastes are for upmarket book club fiction and classy commercial page-turners.

Submissions should be sent to childrenssubmissions@davidhigham.co.uk and please note the submissions guidelines before sending.  For adult novels please send a covering letter, synopsis and the first fifty pages from the MS to carolinewalsh@davidhigham.co.uk

Please see the ‘on the lookout for’ section for more information on what I’d currently love to see in my submissions inbox.

Caroline is assisted by Deirdre Power and Christabel McKinley.

On the lookout for

An unputdownable story of the relationship between a child and a special animal – could be a wild animal or a pet, or even an imaginary beast, but it really needs to tug on the heartstrings.

Brilliantly-told ‘slice of life’ stories – and if there’s humour and high stakes in the mix, so much the better.

A middle-grade novel where the protagonists look at our everyday world from a completely different perspective – think Borrowers for today’s generation of kids.
