WORLD PREMIERE OF INTEMPERANCE BY LIZZIE NUNNERY
OPENS 21 SEPTEMBER AT LIVERPOOL EVERYMAN
Story Date: 19 September 2007
“They can build a thing like that, all pillars and faces of fellas with beards and like some kinda castle, and they can’t make that tap run clean?”
It’s 1854, a time of dizzying change. Liverpool’s streets are teeming with merchants and new arrivals from all corners of the globe. Every day as the walls of St. George’s Hall grow higher above the city skyline, in the bowels of the city the poor of the cellar slums drink away their fears. It’s never their time and they know their place.
But Millie has other ideas. She has her new Norwegian husband and another child on the way. She’s seen the light at the end of the tunnel and she’s taking her fiery family with her. She’s heard of hope and she’d like her family to taste it, or at least fresh water from their very own tap. And then they can be as pristine and grand as Liverpool’s new monument to success
