Julia Golding Wins Ottakar's Children's Book Prize
Julia's debut children's novel, THE DIAMOND OF DRURY LANE wins the award
Story Date: 27 January 2006
Julia Golding was announced as the winner of the Ottakar's Children's Book Prize at an awards ceremony at Ottakar's Putney on Thursday 26th January. The prize was set up to reward exciting new or not yet established authors of children's books. It is both booksellers and children together who select the shortlist and ultimate winner.
Julia beat nine others on the shortlist with THE DIAMOND OF DRURY LANE. Set in Georgian London, the novel tells the story of Catherine Royal, ward of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. An orphan adopted by the theatre, she lives amongst the most gifted actors and musicians of the age, rubs shoulders with the highest society, and plays in the gutter of Covent Garden with the lowest.
Julia is working on two follow-ups to THE DIAMOND OF DRURY LANE. One set against the background of the abolition movement in London and the other based in revolutionary France.
