David Wojtowycz was born in 1969 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire and after an art foundation course at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology, he took a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London University. David began his illustration career by creating the Pigs Might Fly and Flux Deluxe greetings cards ranges and was soon talent-spotted and asked to illustrate the very popular and successful picture book series that began with RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE, written by Giles Andreae. COMMOTION IN THE OCEAN, COCKADOODLE-DO FARMYARD HULLABALOO, DINOSAURS GALORE and several novelty spin-offs followed this title. This successful author/illustrator pairing also won the picture book section of the Children’s Book Award in 1998 with THE LION WHO WANTED TO LOVE.
In addition to illustrating the work of writers as diverse as Martin Waddell and Faustin Charles, David writes many of his own picture book texts and in 2001, A CUDDLE FOR CLAUDE was nominated for the Sheffield Book Award. Recent collaborations, however, include DINOSAURS GALORE, again with Giles Andreae (Orchard) and PARTY ANIMALS with Tony Mitton (Alison Green Books).
David’s bright, exuberant, funny illustrations are perfect for young children – as one enthusiastic reviewer put it: “If I have anything to do with it, my nephew’s first word may be Wojtowycz.”
