Shirley du Boulay was born and educated in the south of England. Her first passion was music and she worked at the BBC in the Music Department before becoming a producer, first in radio, then in television, where she made documentaries and films for the religious department.
She resigned in 1978 and since then has been writing, mainly biographies: DAME CICELY SAUNDERS: FOUNDER OF THE MODERN HOSPICE MOVEMENT, TUTU: VOICE OF THE VOICELESS, TERESA OF AVILA and BEYOND THE DARKNESS: A BIOGRAPHY OF BEDE GRIFFITHS.
She has also written a more personal book, THE ROAD TO CANTERBURY: A MODERN PILGRIMAGE and a book on another passion, THE GARDENERS, amongst others.
She writes occasional journalism and has contributed to three collections of essays, "Contemporary Spiritualities", "Spiritual Stars of the Millenium" and "No place to hide".
She is currently working on two books on the French mystic Abhishiktananda, aka Henri le Saux.
