Category: Children
Agent:Caroline Walsh

Gwyneth Rees was born in Leicester in 1968, and moved to Glasgow at the age of six. She studied medicine at Glasgow University and qualified as a doctor in 1990. She now works as a child and adolescent consultant psychiatrist and has lived and worked in various places, including Birmingham and London.

Gwyneth’s interest in writing has been constant since her childhood when she was an avid reader of Enid Blyton and wrote her first 'book' in an exercise jotter at the age of ten. (It featured four children trying to solve a mystery about sheep rustlers on the Isle of Skye!) As a medical student she went on writing workshops during the holidays, which fuelled her desire to be published.

Her first children’s novel, SOMETHING SECRET, was published in 1995 and since then she has published several books with Macmillan. These include the MERMAIDS series for 7-9s (MERMAID MAGIC, RANI’S SEA SPELL and THE SHELL PRINCESS); two COSMO titles for 7-9s (COSMO AND THE MAGIC SNEEZE and COSMO AND THE GREAT WITCH ESCAPE); the MUM HUNT series for 9-11s (THE MUM HUNT, THE MUM DETECTIVE and the upcoming THE MUM MYSTERY); and again for 7-9s the hugely popular FAIRY series: FAIRY DUST, FAIRY TREASURE, FAIRY DREAMS, FAIRY GOLD and FAIRY RESCUE.

In order to find the time to write, Gwyneth now works part time as a doctor and spends the rest of the week on her novels.
