David Wynn Millward studied law at the University of St Andrews, Dundee then worked as a copywriter/Visualizer in Advertising before turning his hand to work as a freelance artist and cartoonist. He studied Painting, Drawing & Printmaking at the Royal Academy Schools and was awarded the Printmaking Prize ’72 & ’73 for Etching and Screenprinting, a Landseer scholarship and the Connoisseur Prize for Oil Painting. He went on to study at Goldsmith’s College, University of London.
The oil paintings, etchings, screenprints and woodcarvings have found their way into public and private collections in Britain and abroad. The early screenprints were exhibited at the Gateway Arts Centre in “The Cutting Edge” exhibition during Shrewsbury’s Visual Arts Festival in 2000. Oil paintings and screenprints were shown at The Corner House Gallery, Meifod, in March, 2000, “Patterns of Powys” and in May 2001, “Powys to Provence”. In June and July, 2002, oils, etchings and screenprints were shown at the Mount Street Gallery, Brecon.
David has also illustrated several books including THE DRAGONS OF SNOWDON, WILFRED’S WOLF, GRANNY GRIMM’S GRUESOME GLASSES, HOT DOG, COOL CAT and ILL WILL, WELL NELL.
David runs a Summer School of Painting with his wife, Jenny Nimmo, at their home in Montgomeryshire, Henllan Mill.
