Lucy started writing as soon as she could hold a pen at the age of 5, and has never stopped. She wrote her first play at 8, which was performed for many years by her old nursery school. It was a Nativity play in heroic rhyming couplets told from the donkey’s point of view...! She then wrote her own adaptation of ‘The Little Match Girl’ which was staged in a church hall and raised the sum of one pound for Oxfam. (That was a lot of money in those days.) Nine O levels and three A levels later, she went to London university where she read English, then worked on various newspapers (including the Observer and Evening Standard) before embarking on a writing career that has included advertising copywriting, journalism, scriptwriting and writing books.

NICKOLAI OF THE NORTH, a beguiling, wintry tale about the young elf who becomes what we know as Father Christmas, was published in October 2005 by Hodder Children‘s Books. The equally magical sequel, NICKOLAI'S QUEST, will be published in October this year.

In 2003 Lion Books published five animal titles to tie in with one of Lucy's TV series, ANIMAL STORIES (BBC/Disney Channel) The books are ERIC THE ELEPHANT, PETER THE PEACOCK, CAMILLA THE CAMEL, RALPH THE RABBIT and HARRY THE HIPPO.
