Rebecca Lisle was born in Yorkshire and is a dab hand at making Yorkshire pudding. As a child growing up in a house with stone floors and little heating, she was cold most of the time and spent hours in bed with a hotwater bottle reading Enid Blyton, fairy tales, Hornblower books and Dickens.

After school Rebecca went to work in France as an au pair. She lived in an old chateau in the countryside without a television or radio and it was then that she began writing stories to pass the time and to entertain the children she looked after.

Rebecca studied Botany at Newcastle University and following that spent a year at Oxford University to qualify to teach. She has taught in various schools part-time so that she can continue with her writing. She has had numerous short stories published in womens’ magazines and her first children’s novel was published by Puffin in 1998, entitled SPARKS WILL FLY.

Rebecca has written several children’s novels since, including COPPER and its sequel AMETHYST, THE TOAD PRINCE, DOGS DON'T DO DISHES, THE DOG IN THE DIAMOND COLLAR (all Andersen Press) and THE CURSE OF THE TOADS (Hodder).

Forthcoming is the sequel to THE CURSE OF THE TOADS, THE CURSE OF THE RAVENS (again Hodder) and a sequel to THE DOG IN THE DIAMOND COLLAR, THE BOY IN THE BIG BLACK BOX (Andersen).

Rebecca lives in Bristol and is married with three boys, a black and white dog and a cat.
