Leigh graduated from the University of Hull in 1998 with a first in graphic design. She went on to study Animation Direction at the National Film and Television School where she made two short animated films, EXCESS BAGGAGE and NOVELTY. NOVELTY toured the world at festivals bringing home numerous prizes and awards including the 2002 British Animation Award for Best Creative Use of New Media.
Since leaving the NFTS, she has made a further four animated films. The first one MATRYOSHKA, was comissioned for Sonimation (a sound and animation collaboration) in 2001. The second, , was made on channel 4's 2001 TV series CELMATES (where 5 animation directors were locked in a room for 72 hours and left to create films). The third, MOON(N), was a Channel 4/AIR commission. It was completed in 2003 and has screened at festivals internationally. MOON(N) won several awards and commendations, and was selected for The Sundance Film Festival 2004. Her latest short film STALK was commissioned by London Film Funds Pulse scheme in 2004. STALK is currently travelling around the world in ResFest and other international festivals. It was screened at the 2005 London Film Festival and at the Winterthur Short Film Festival 2005 it picked up the award for outstanding directorial achievement.
Leigh worked at Tiger Aspect as art director for the 26 episode animated series called CHARLIE AND LOLA, based on the books by Lauren Child.
She is absolutely passionate about writing, making things and daydreaming. Up untill now, her stories have all somehow turned into animated films… However, she has been quietly developing her own picture books and has a big pocket full. Leigh lives and works in London.
