Geoffrey Grigson, poet and critic, was born in 1905, the seventh son of a Cornish vicar.

In 1933 he launched the famous literary magazine New Verse. His own first book of poems was published in 1939.

He wrote books on the painter Samuel Palmer, on travel and natural history, and he was well known as a reviewer and as a maker of anthologies.
