Corina Fletcher is a designer who specialises in pop-up books and paper engineering. She trained in Graphic Design at Central St Martins School of Art, and then in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art, where she developed her passion for working in three-dimensions and paper. She has since lectured at many colleges including returning to Central St Martins as a visiting tutor. Corina is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Corina has 15 years of experience in paper engineering, and during that time has worked with some of the most well known names in children’s books, including Lauren Child, Nick Sharratt and Neal Layton. She relishes the challenge of creating complex and dynamic three-dimensional designs, which are also robust enough to withstand enthusiastic handling. As well as providing the obvious visual ‘wow’ factor, Corina also loves pop-up because of its educational potential and hands on nature.
Corina won the 2006 Aventis Children's Science Book of the Year for THE GLOBAL GARDEN with Kate Petty and Jennie Maizels. Her recent work includes pop-up editions of Lauren Child’s hugely popular I WILL NOT EVER, NEVER EAT A TOMATO, I AM NOT SLEEPY AND I WILL NOT GO TO BED and WHO’S AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD BOOK? She is currently working on a pop-up version of Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees’s GIRAFFES CAN’T DANCE and a sequel to THE STORY OF EVERYTHING with Neal Layton, amongst others.
Although she focuses on children’s books, Corina relishes the variety of work that comes with a career in such an unusual field, including making paper displays for Liberty of London; pop-up books for adults, such as her contribution to THE ARCHITECTURE PACK, a milestone in paper engineered books; and all things 3D.
Corina lives near Lewes in East Sussex with her family.
