Caroline Dakers is a cultural historian, specialising in British cultural history from 1800 to 1950. She is Professor of Cultural History at the world-famous Central St Martin's College of Art and Design.
She is the author of a number of books including, most recently, THE HOLLAND PARK CIRCLE: ARTISTS AND VICTORIAN SOCIETY (1999), which was noted by William Dalrymple in the Sunday Times as being `perceptive and often witty' and `as much about 19th century London and the strange mores of high Victorian society as it is about the work of the artists.'
She is currently writing her third book for Yale University Press - the extraordinary `rags to riches' story of James Morrison, `Napoleon of shopkeepers' and the richest commoner in 19th century Britain.
