Suhayla studied the MA in screenwriting at Leeds Metropolitan University, for which she received a bursary from the Film Council. She is currently writing for Hollyoaks and other credits include a feature screenplay for Jeva Films (supported by the Film Council), an interactive teen drama and three scripts for Doctors. Suhayla is developing an original screenplay, Left Luggage as part of the Guiding Lights scheme where her mentor is Christopher Hampton. Suhayla has previously worked as a teacher and youth worker and spent part of her childhood in Khartoum, Sudan, later moving to London where she was a member of the Tricycle Youth Theatre. She has also recently completed an original stage play and was one of the contributors to the Bush Theatre's 66 Books programme of plays.
