Julian Jackson is Professor of History at Queen Mary, University of London. A Fellow of the British Academy and of the Royal Historical Society, Professor Jackson is one of the leading authorities on twentieth-century France. In 2010 he was made a Commandeur dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French government.

His books include France: The Dark Years (2001, shortlisted for the Los Angeles Times Book Award) and The Fall of France (2003, winner of the Wolfson History Prize). He is now writing a major life of Charles de Gaulle for Allen Lane / Penguin Press. He lives in London.
