Jane Gardam has won the Whitbread Award twice, for The Queen of the Tambourines (Random House) and The Hollow Land (Walker Books). God on the Rocks (Little, Brown) was a runner-up for the Booker Prize. Old Filth (Chatto) is about the life and marriage of Edward Feathers, nickname ‘Filth’ – Failed in London Try Hong Kong.  The Man in the Wooden Hat (Chatto) tells the story of his wife, Elisabeth, and how she became the reliable Betty of the first novel.  Both stories are set against the end of the Raj.   

Jane Gardam was awarded an OBE in 2009.

She lives in Yorkshire and in Kent. She is married with three grown-up children.
