David Miller was born into a farming family in Norfolk. After Cambridge he spent most of his career in advertising, as a copywriter, and later a creative director at the major international agency Ogilvy and Mather.

In the mid-1980s he took an extended sabbatical, travelling alone through the war-torn border areas of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa, resulting in a successful adult thriller The Hyena Run (Headline 1987) published under the pen-name of David Morton.

His first love has always been the Far East, and when he was offered the post of Creative Director at Ogilvy and Mather in Malaysia, he leapt at it. At the agency he met Su’en, a Malaysian Chinese who was to become his second wife, and mother to their daughter Hanna who was born in 1990.

It is from this beginning – and urged on by his daughter who demanded he write a ‘really really exciting’ book for children – that Shark Island and its sequels Sea Wolf (pub. Jan 2010) and Leopards Claw (pub. Jul 2010) evolved. Combining a wealth of authentic detail, with action-packed storylines, they herald the return of the classic adventure novel.

David, Su’en and Hanna now live in Hampshire.
