Michael Arditti was born in Cheshire and educated at Jesus College, Cambridge. He has written plays for the stage and radio and theatre criticism and book reviews for national newspapers. He has contributed to the Dictionary of National Biography, the City Secrets series, and theatrical anthologies.

Michael is the author of seven novels: The Celibate (1993); Pagan and Her Parents (first published in 1996 but reissued by Arcadia in 2011; published as Pagan's Father in the US, where it was shortlisted for the Lambda Literary Award); Easter (2000; winner of the first Waterstone’s Mardi Gras Award and shortlisted for the Creative Freedom Award); Unity (2005; shortlisted for the 2006 Wingate Jewish Quarterly award); A Sea Change (2006); The Enemy of the Good (2009); and Jubilate, published by Arcadia in February 2011. His short-story collection, Good Clean Fun, was published in 2004.

Arditti was awarded a Harold Hyam Wingate scholarship in 2000, a Royal Literary Fund fellowship in 2001, an Oppenheim-John Downes Memorial Award in 2003, and an Arts Council Award in 2004. He lives in London.
