Alan Clements was educated at the University of Glasgow and in the United States. He worked as a teacher and a political journalist before founding, in 1990, the independent TV production company Wark Clements with his wife, the presenter Kirsty Wark. The company produced many high-profile and successful television programmes, including a ten-part adaptation for Channel 4 of The First World War by Hew Strachan (qv). He is now Director of Content for Scottish Television (formerly the Scottish Media Group).
Alan's debut novel, Rogue Nation, is a high-concept political thriller about a coup in post-independence Scotland (Mainstream, 2009).
