Mel grew up learning about, exploring and drawing the natural world. Her curiosity led her first to study biology, then complete a Ph.D in plant biochemistry at the University of Oxford. After 10 years in science communication consultancy and educational publishing, Mel decided she wanted to share stories that matter and to feed her passion for art. She recently graduated from the MA in Children’s book illustration at Cambridge School of Art.
Mel enjoys the challenge of finding the perfect combination of words and pictures to make people smile whilst inspiring them to stop and look more closely at the world around them.
Originally from Edinburgh, Mel now lives with her partner in rural Oxfordshire and enjoys, amongst other things, watching the wildlife to be found there.
