Debbie Singleton was born in Middlesbrough and scribbled many a poem and story as a child but never thought about becoming a writer. But then, she never thought about working on a North Sea oil rig either, which was where she started her career as a petroleum engineer after completing a degree in Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University.
She moved on to more inviting places, living in Texas, Alaska, Trinidad and Western Australia. Along the way, she left her job to look after her daughters and rediscovered her inclination to write stories.
Her first picture book, The King Who Wouldn’t Sleep, illustrated by Holly Swain, was published by Andersen Press in 2012. OUP published Pigeon Pie, Oh My! in 2014.
Debbie now lives in Australia with her husband and two daughters.
